Our approach to Fairtrade means a fair wage for all our producers and craft workers; it also means decent working conditions, plenty of light & air in the work place, good equipment and a congenial atmosphere. We also produce some items on a cottage industry basis. The income helps to keep families together in the countryside, rather than be forced into the overcrowded city to find work.
Our approach to Fairtrade is about loyalty to our suppliers, and loyalty to our trained workers. It is about continuity of employment and the security that comes with it. Our Tailor's Fund in Nepal helps provide this continuity during slack periods, as well as sickness benefits.
For every cotton garment we import from Nepal, a small contribution is made into this fund. This means that your purchase is helping the cause of a family in Nepal, a tiny gift to the skilled hands that produced these beautifully made clothes.
Fairtrade is not about charity. We believe it makes perfect sense to do the very best we can for our suppliers, be they weavers, dyers, tailors or knitters. We aim for a very high standard in all our goods. Such standards can only be sustained by people who have been trained and who take pride in their work. Through our faithfulness to them, we get their loyalty and commitment in return.
